Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. After some rest, visit the Bogd Khan’s Winter Palace Museum, the former residence of Mongolia’s last monarch, displaying artifacts of the early 20th century. Continue to Zaisan Hill, a viewpoint offering panoramic views over Ulaanbaatar. In the evening, take a short orientation walk around the city center. Meals: B/L/D
Ulaanbaatar – Bayangobi – Khugnu Khan National Park
After breakfast, drive west toward Bayangobi, an area where steppe, forest, and desert landscapes meet. Explore Khugnu Khan National Park, known for its granite rock formations and historical sites. Enjoy a camel ride on the Mongol Sand Dunes, followed by a visit to Erdene Khamba Monastery ruins located in the mountains. Overnight in a ger camp near the park. Meals: B/L/D
Khugnu Khan – Kharkhorin – Tsenher Hot Springs
Depart for Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. Visit Erdenezuu Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, and the Kharkhorin Museum, which exhibits archaeological finds from the Orkhon Valley. Continue to Tsenher Hot Springs, known for its naturally heated mineral waters. Relax and bathe in the open-air pools at your ger camp in the evening. Meals: B/L/D
Tsenher – Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake – Khorgo Volcano
Travel through forested hills and small villages to reach Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, formed by volcanic activity. Visit the nearby Khorgo Crater, an extinct volcano, and take a short hike along its rim for views of the surrounding lava fields and lake. Spend the night at a lakeside ger camp. Meals: B/L/D
Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake – Khar Lake
Drive toward Khar Lake, a freshwater lake located between mountains and desert steppe. On the way, stop at Senjit Rock, a natural stone arch, and at the Mukhar Hun River, where locals often graze livestock. Arrive at Khar Lake in the late afternoon and take a short walk along the shoreline before dinner and overnight stay in a ger camp. Meals: B/L/D
Khar Lake – Khyargas Lake
Continue the journey west across Uvs Province to Khyargas Lake, one of Mongolia’s largest lakes. Stop at Khetsuu Khad, a rocky cliff formation at the lake’s edge known for its striking shapes and birdlife. Arrive at the lakeside camp and enjoy a quiet evening by the water. Meals: B/L/D
Khyargas Lake – Ulaangom
Drive to Ulaangom, the provincial center of Uvs. Visit the Uvs Province Museum, which provides information about the region’s natural environment and ethnic groups. In the afternoon, visit a Durvud nomad family to observe their traditional way of life and learn about herding practices. Overnight at a local hotel or guest ger. Meals: B/L/D
Ulaangom – Uureg Lake
Travel through the mountainous terrain toward Uureg Lake, located between the Turgen and Tsagaan Shuvuut ranges. Arrive at your camp by the lake and take time to explore the surrounding area on foot. The lake is known for its clear waters and alpine scenery. Meals: B/L/D
Uureg Lake – Hoyor Sair Waterfall
Spend the morning exploring Uureg Lake, observing birdlife and mountain views. Take a hike to Hoyor Sair Waterfall, a natural cascade set among cliffs and meadows. Return to the camp for rest and an evening by the lakeshore. Meals: B/L/D
0 Uureg Lake – Sagsai Town – Kazakh Eagle Hunter Experience
Drive to Sagsai Town, home to Kazakh communities in Bayan-Ulgii Province. Visit a Kazakh family and learn about the tradition of eagle hunting—how golden eagles are trained and cared for. Observe demonstrations and take photos with the hunters and their birds. Overnight in a local ger camp. Meals: B/L/D
1 Sagsai – Ulgii Town
Travel to Ulgii, the provincial capital. Visit the Bayan-Ulgii Province Museum, which displays artifacts of Kazakh culture, traditional crafts, and regional history. Explore the local market for handmade felt goods and embroidered textiles. Overnight at a local hotel. Meals: B/L/D
2 Ulgii – Ulaanbaatar
Take an early flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure for shopping or personal exploration. In the evening, attend a traditional folklore concert featuring Mongolian throat singing and dance, followed by a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Meals: B/L/D
